Talking Hairs - Salon Policies, Parking, and Vivid Color Care Information

Parking Information

Talking Hairs is located inside of Salons by JC at 2130 S University Blvd, Suite 23, Denver

We're on the first floor of the Observatory ONE Apartment building located east of DU campus on university and Evans. We share a building and parking garage with Beau Jo's, Saucy's, Ginza Sushi and Bank of America.

Parking can be confusing, so please plan ahead for extra time! We have a few meters out front on University, and a free parking garage in the basement.

The Garage is accessible through the alleyway. There is also a garage entrance immediately off the corner of Evans on our building, do NOT go into that garage, it's for apartment residents only! Our entrance is down the alley a ways, connecting to the church parking lot next door. Take a ticket at the entrance gate, and be sure to bring it in with you! Park in any spot (ignore the numbers on the ground) that isn't marked by a sign for Beau Jo's or Bank of America.

Our salon's parking allows for clients to park in the garage for free for the first 4 hours (I was told) and beyond that, it's $2 an hour. If you lose your ticket, they charge you $20 to get out, so hold onto it! When you are done with your service and heading out, scan your ticket at the kiosk at the front reception desk. Wait until it beeps and says your ticket was successfully validated. After that, take your ticket back to your car! They give the ticket holder 15 minutes to leave the garage in their car. Use the barcode on your ticket to scan yourself out of the exit gate!

Sometimes, the gate is broken. More often than not, it's because someone gets frustrated or doesn't want to pay for parking, and drives through it, breaking it off. Sometimes, they take up to a few weeks to fix the gate. In the event that it is broken, and both the exit and entrance gates will be up, and you do not need to take a ticket, and you can park however long.

There is sometimes also street parking in neighborhoods around campus, but the spots can be sparse during the day, and the traffic can be wild. I'd recommend taking a Lyft/uber if you live nearby, and don't want to drive.

- Salon Policies -

Please arrive on time for your appointment, so I can be sure to stay on time for all my clients that day. If you are running late, please reach out to me to let me know. Clients who are later than 15 minutes will be considered a no-show, and will be charged 100% of their haircut service, and 1 hour worth of their color service. I know neurodivergent folks like me have difficulty with time management. If you need extra time, please let me know when booking, to be sure I can accommodate you.

If you are getting a color service, I ask that you arrive with your hair as follows, to help ensure the best possible results for color or chemical services.

Please have hair that has been washed within the last 48 Hours, with minimal styling products. For best results, I also recommend using a clarifying shampoo to remove product build-up.

-Please avoid washing your hair for 1-2 days to help lessen scalp sensitivity IF you are getting a color service with lightener on the scalp.-

Hair Color is done on an hourly basis, and will be charged for the full time of the color service itself, not including cutting or styling, based on the hourly rate listed on the service. The rate listed is NOT the final price (unless your color only takes exactly one hour). Time and full payment will be calculated at the end. Generally, most peoples hair takes about 2.5-3 hours for an all over, single process color.

Please wear a shirt without a collar to any color appointments - while it is rare, color and bleach may end up on clothing, so please keep that in mind when dressing for your appointment. I suggest bringing an old t-shirt to change into under your cape to guarantee the safety of your clothing.

Please make sure your hair is free of any tangles and is not matted - anything more than simple detangling (usually less than 2 minutes) is not built into the service time. If more intensive detangling is required, I offer this as a service per hour, listed on my booking site.

-Curly hair-

Please arrive with your hair in a freshly styled state that accurately represents how you usually style it. Please wash, style, and fully dry your hair within 24 hours of your appointment to help me give you the best and most accurate cut possible.

If you prefer a sprayed-damp or dry cut, please let me know! I'm happy to accommodate.

Please don't arrive with your hair in a ponytail or bun. These will disrupt your natural curl pattern, and how your hair falls once taken down is not the ideal way it needs to lay for me to give you the quality cut that I'm known for.

Guest and Kids Policy -

Please do not bring guests (this includes spouses, kids and friends) to your appointment, UNLESS they are also receiving a service. If someone is absolutely needed to support you during your appointment, I ask that they take a seat, and refrain from any distraction. I work in a suite not only for my clients comfort, but my own concentration.

In compliance with DORA regulations surrounding hot tools, sharp objects and chemicals, I can only have one person in my chair and station at a time.

If you bring your children to your appointment, and they are NOT receiving a service, you will be asked to reschedule, and you will be charged 100% of your service price. Kiddos have a tendency to want to mess with my chair, my haircutting tools, or play with other furniture that could get them hurt, and therefore they are a liability to me if they are not there for a service.

My studio is very small, and cannot generally accommodate space for guests on top of the client and myself; If you absolutely need a support person, that's totally fine. There is seating in the hallway, as well as wonderful restaurants immediately near the shop. Thank you for understanding!

Late Arrivals -

Please arrive on time for your appointment.

Late arrivals can throw the day into chaos and cause a domino effect of unnecessary stress and tension for both my clients and myself, so my policy is that I do not accept late arrivals as it's unfair to everyone else.

If you arrive later than 15 minutes past the start time of your appointment, I will not be able to provide your service, and you'll need to reschedule, and/or I may not be able to perform your entire service. This may also forfeit your deposit if you paid one for a service. Deposits are not refundable. No-show fees are not refundable.

No Shows/Cancellations -

Please read my cancellation policy carefully. By booking, you are accepting these terms.

I require 24 hours notice when canceling or rescheduling an appointment. Canceling or rescheduling after that timeframe will result

in a fee of 100% of your haircut, and one hour worth of your color service price. If you paid a deposit, this will be forfeited and will be included in the fee.

Those who try to hide payment methods so I cannot charge them a no-show fee will not be allowed back at the salon, as this is considered theft of services. If needed, I will take people to small claims court.

No Shows -

No shows are unacceptable and cause me to lose money. I am an independent contractor. If my work is not done or completed I don't get paid and cannot pay my bills. I do NOT give refunds under any circumstances and that includes no-show fees charged to your card. If you don’t want to be charged for a service you don’t show up for, I’m not the person for you.

I have multiple text (and email) confirmations in place to remind you that your appointment is coming up.

There are five ways to get in touch with me, I’m very available when I’m not with a customer. Saying you “couldn’t get ahold of me” is an invalid excuse. You can text, email, leave a voicemail, instagram DM or Facebook message.

My no show terms are non-negotiable and are at my discretion. As an independent stylist, it is up to me to keep myself protected. Everything I use including color and tools, are paid for by me, out of pocket.

If these terms are not acceptable to you, I am not the stylist for you. Emergencies are exempt from this policy, such as hospitalizations, accidents or true family emergencies.

Redo/Fixes -

After your service is completed, if you feel that you need an adjustment or something isn't quite right, please contact me within 7 days of the service via Instagram message or Text message.

When contacting me, please let me know your specific concerns or issues, and include a few clear, well-lit pictures of the area of concern.

Please remember, especially with grey coverage, that regrowth will appear for some people, within even a week or two, and that hair grows on average about ½ an inch per month.

I have specific aftercare instructions for color and vivid colors, please refer to that page. If aftercare instructions are not followed, I am not responsible for any redo or corrective services. Additionally, if you see another stylist before I am given a chance to tweak or correct it myself, this voids any redo services forthcoming.

After the initial 7 days from your original service, redo services will not be free of charge, and you will have to pay for services full price.

I do NOT issue refunds under any circumstance. There are clear descriptions in the services you book. My time and labor is not refundable, and you cannot return your hair. Therefore, they will not be issued for any reason.

If you request a style that I, the professional, advise against, I do not accept any emotional harassment towards me. Change can be difficult, especially drastic change. I encourage all my clients to seriously consider their options, and my opinions of what will work with their hair. A photo of someone with curly hair will not look the same on straight hair, etc.

Corrective Color Guidelines

Corrective color will most likely take more than one session, and price quotes are always on an hourly basis.

I take steps to help preserve and maintain the integrity of your hair, and sometimes this means a particular color isn’t possible. Some hairstylists will gladly take your money and fry your hair to get a promised result to you. My saying is “under-promise, over-deliver” because haircolor is NOT a perfect science, and depends entirely on your hair chemistry and timing.

Treatments like deep conditioners or bond builders are included in the hourly service pricing. Like all new guests or anyone wanting a color correction, I do need to see pictures and have an in-person or text consultation before you book - this helps both of us to stay on the same page.

Once I see your hair and have a clear understanding of your goal, I can give you an idea of if what you're looking for is something that I can achieve while maintaining the integrity of your hair. I can also tell you how many sessions it will take to get you where you want to be - and give you an idea of cost.

DISCLAIMER - I am NOT a blonde specialist. If you insist on seeing me for an all over blonde or balayage, please know that I am not comfortable with platinum colors or silver blondes, because they are extremely difficult services to perfect, and can be very damaging. I have other stylists I can refer you to if you are looking for an all over blonde or silver. I DO NOT do color services on extremely damaged hair. This is a liability and I reserve the right to refuse any color service if I feel it is unsafe for your hair, or if I am not comfortable or feeling confident in the type of color you want.

By booking an appointment with me, you agree to my terms and policies. By agreeing to these policies, you are agreeing to knowing that color is not a perfect science, and your desired result might not be possible in one session. The color you want might not be possible -at all- depending on what color you have in your hair, or if your hair is damaged. You assume any and all risk by agreeing to my policies, and I do not give refunds for any services for any reason.

Policy Agreement -

By booking an appointment with Talking Hairs, I understand that if I don't adhere to these policies, that Demi may not be able to give me the service I booked in either the amount of time scheduled, or to the best of their ability, and reserves the right to not proceed with the appointment as well as charging a loss of revenue fee/cancellation or no-show fee. By booking an appointment, I agree to communicate any allergies or haircolor reactions to Demi. Any allergic reactions, injuries due to client error, accidental injury or physical health issue from an allergy or reaction are covered by Demi's professional insurance and Demi is not liable for any health issues I do not communicate or know about.

I understand that my color service MAY require a deposit between $100-$500 (depending on service) and this must be paid in full before my appointment is accepted.

I understand that by arriving at the appointment and not following the policies, I may forfeit my deposit/be charged a 100% fee for haircuts and 1 hour of my color service, and or not receive the service I booked because Demi will not have time to complete my service in the time allotted.

I understand that Demi charges color services by hour, and this time marker begins at the time of service, even if you are late. This can mean that if I have a corrective color service or a big transformation, I can expect to pay anywhere between $400-$1200. I acknowledge that my hairstylists time is valuable, and that prices are non-negotiable.

I agree to following current communicable disease guidelines such as wearing a mask in the salon when necessary, and avoiding coming in when I feel ill or have symptoms such as fever, chills, cough or sudden fatigue or body aches.

I acknowledge that Demi CANNOT work on clients who come in sick, and If I show up with symptoms, Demi is entitled to cancel that appointment, charge the cancellation fee, and ask me to leave. Demi's health is important, and I understand that she does not get sick time. I will be considerate and respectful of all staff at Salons by JC.

I understand that this salon and stylist have a 'zero tolerance' policy for bigoted and discriminatory behavior towards race, gender, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age or social status. Many of Demi's clients are Autistic, Transgender, or are LGBTQIA+ individuals, and If there is any hate speech, harassment or micro aggression towards any of these groups, or Demi herself, I will be asked to leave and my service price will be charged/a fee will apply. I understand that I may not be asked to return, and any color on my hair will be immediately rinsed and unfinished.

I acknowledge that if I display inappropriate behavior or language towards Demi, she is entitled to cancel my appointments, before or during. If Demi has to cancel my appointment in less than 48 hours, I understand that she will charge a no-show fee worth 100% of haircuts, one hour of color and one hour of detangling appointments. I acknowledge that Demi's time is money, and If I take up time on her schedule and show inappropriate or sexual behavior towards her, I will be charged cancellation/no-show fees according to my services on the books.

I acknowledge that Demi can fire or ban clients at any time, for any reason, without notice.

By booking an appointment with Demi, I understand I am accepting risk and liability, including unknown allergies or reactions to haircolor chemicals. If I have allergies, I will make these known to Demi. Any physical health needs or disability needs during an appointment need to be communicated with Demi.

I am acknowledging that these services are NON REFUNDABLE, as they are priced by labor and time. Demi has the right to decline any service at any time, even if she has seen me before.

By booking an appointment with me, you acknowledge all of my policies and business guidelines, and agree to follow them.

I acknowledge that Demi's prices can vary without notice, depending on demand and expense costs raising.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read! I can't wait to work with you!

Vivid Color After Care Instructions

Vivid colors are a fun way to express your individuality and creative personality. They also have an entirely different aftercare procedure than most other colors, as they are not permanent.

  1. -Wait 48 hours OR MORE to wash your hair after the initial appointment. I recommend sleeping with a dark towel for a night or two, sometimes the residue that stays on the scalp can bleed. Also avoid light colored clothing for those two days.

  2. -Use a professional-grade shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. Preferably sulfate free. Also consider color-depositing shampoos and conditioners. (Overtone is not recommended as it is actually a dye, and is extremely difficult to remove in some cases).

  3. -Only wash your hair when ABSOLUTELY necessary, and use cool to cold water. My pro tip: I wash and condition my hair first with cool water, then put it up in a shower cap or clip, then turn up the temperature for a hot shower or bath.

  4. -Invest in a good dry shampoo, (and dry conditioner for curly or coarse hair) it will be your best friend. I recommend Amika Dry Shampoo, Aveda Shampowder or Living Proof PHD.

  5. -Avoid heat styling, as any heat on the hair colored will open the cuticle and let the color molecules escape. If you must heat style, PLEASE use a heat protectant styling product with at least 350 degree protection.

  6. -Avoid letting any of your colored hair be in direct sunlight for more than 5-10 minutes.

  7. -Avoid any water with a high mineral content, even plain ol' water can contain enough minerals to strip your color. DO NOT let your hair dip into epsom salts or any type of mineral bath. Magnesium can immediately remove some brands.

  8. -Try to avoid non-professional hair color brands, opt for professional services and products. Many non professional products contain a lot of alcohol, wax and fillers that can leave buildup on your hair, as well as make your color fade faster.
